Storm and disaster response for Metro Detroit homes

If a storm has opened your roof, broken windows or let water in, get everyone to a safe part of the house and call 248-845-0000. We board up, tarp and dry the inside before more weather gets in.

After a storm: safety first, then close the house

Stay away from downed power lines and treat every wire as live; report it to your utility or 911. Don't go under a sagging ceiling or into a room where a tree came through the roof. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas company from outside. If rain is coming in, catch drips with buckets and move belongings away from the openings.

Then we secure the house. Plywood goes over broken windows and doors, and tarps or shrink wrap are fastened over roof damage so rain stays out while repairs are planned. Inside, we extract water, remove soaked ceiling drywall and insulation where needed, and set up drying.

Tornadoes and straight-line winds can damage the roof, walls and windows in a single event, and an open roof lets rain into insulation, ceilings and walls below. We treat that as several jobs at once: secure, extract, dry, then rebuild. When the house is stable, RMO handles the repairs and reconstruction, and your adjuster gets photos and an itemized scope covering both the emergency work and the rebuild.

  • Board-up and roof tarping

Broken windows, doors and roof openings are covered first, to keep rain, wind and intruders out.

  • Ready for large events

When one storm damages many homes, we sort calls by safety risk and active water so the worst damage is stopped first.

What our disaster response includes

  • Hazard and damage assessment

We check for structural, electrical and gas hazards before work starts and photograph the damage inside and out.

  • Board-up

Plywood over broken windows, doors and wall openings protects the home from weather and unwanted entry.

  • Roof tarping and shrink wrap

Tarps or shrink wrap cover damaged roof sections until permanent repairs can be made.

  • Water removal and drying

Rain that came through the roof or walls is extracted, and drying equipment goes into every wet room.

  • Debris removal

Broken glass, branches, wet drywall and ruined materials are cleared from inside the home and hauled away.

  • Contents protection

Furniture and belongings are moved away from openings, covered, or packed out if the home can't be secured.

  • Repairs and reconstruction

Once the home is dry and stable, RMO rebuilds what the storm damaged as one continuous job.

Why RMO after storm damage

  • We close the house first

Board-up and tarping come before anything else, because every hour a roof stays open lets more water into the structure.

  • Straight answers in big storms

When calls spike across the region, we give you a realistic arrival time instead of a hopeful one.

  • One file for a complicated claim

Storm claims often combine roof, interior and contents damage. Our photos, moisture readings and itemized scope keep them together for your adjuster.

Questions people ask us

Don’t see yours? A person answers 248-845-0000 around the clock.

Can you remove a tree from my roof?

Yes. Call us as soon as it happens. We remove fallen trees and large limbs with the right rigging and equipment, tarp the opening, dry the inside and handle the repairs.

Should I try to tarp the roof myself?

No, please leave roof work to the crew. Wet shingles, wind and damaged framing make it dangerous, especially in the dark. Focus on the inside: keep people away from the leak and protect what you can.

Does homeowners insurance cover storm damage?

Wind, hail and fallen-tree damage are commonly covered by homeowners policies, though deductibles and limits vary. Water that rises from outside is a different matter and usually falls under flood insurance. We document the damage and work with your adjuster; the carrier decides what's covered.

What should I photograph for my claim?

Take wide shots of each damaged room and the outside of the house, then close-ups of the damage. Keep receipts for anything you buy to protect the property, like tarps or buckets. Don't throw away damaged items until your adjuster has seen them or agreed in writing.
