Water extraction and removal for Metro Detroit homes

An inch on the kitchen floor or a foot in the basement, the job starts the same way: get the water out, then find where it went. Call 248-845-0000 and a crew is on site in about 60 minutes.

How we remove water, and how we decide what stays

Before the crew arrives, shut off the water source and unplug anything you can reach without stepping in water. Lift rugs, electronics and boxes off wet floors. Wipe water off wood furniture and slide foil or plastic under its legs so stains don't transfer into the carpet.

Extraction starts with the deepest water and works outward. Pumps take care of standing water, then extraction tools work through carpet, pad and hard floors. Water under hardwood and inside walls can't be vacuumed out, so we find it with meters and a thermal camera and plan the drying around it.

What stays depends on the water. Clean water from a supply line gives carpet, drywall and wood a real chance to be dried in place. Gray water from a washer or dishwasher means more cleaning and usually new pad. Sewage and outside floodwater mean the porous materials they touched are removed. We explain each decision on site and record it for your adjuster.

  • Liquid water out first

Pulling water out as liquid is far faster than evaporating it later, so thorough extraction shortens the whole job.

  • The right method for each surface

Carpet, hardwood, tile, concrete and drywall each need different tools and a different decision about what stays.

What water extraction and removal covers

  • Water category check

We identify whether the water is clean, gray or sewage, because that decides the safety gear and what can be saved.

  • Pump-out

Submersible and trash pumps remove deep water from basements, crawl spaces and low rooms.

  • Carpet and pad extraction

Weighted extraction tools press water out of carpet and pad far more thoroughly than a vacuum wand alone.

  • Hard floor extraction

Tile, vinyl, laminate and concrete are cleared with squeegees and wands, then checked for water trapped underneath.

  • Hidden water mapping

Thermal imaging and moisture meters trace water under flooring, behind baseboards and inside wall cavities.

  • Removal of unsalvageable materials

Saturated pad, swollen laminate and drywall that wicked up contaminated water are removed and bagged.

  • Hand-off to structural drying

With the water out, we set drying equipment and record starting moisture levels for every affected room.

Why RMO for water removal

  • Decisions based on the water you have

We don't treat sewage like a clean supply line. Gear, cleaning and removal match the category of water in your home.

  • Less tear-out where it's avoidable

Thorough extraction and prompt drying can save materials that would otherwise be cut out and replaced.

  • Every removed material on record

Each item we remove is photographed and listed, so your adjuster can see why it went.

Questions people ask us

Don’t see yours? A person answers 248-845-0000 around the clock.

How do you know if water got under my floor or into the walls?

We test with pin and pinless moisture meters and scan with a thermal camera, instead of relying on what we can see or touch. Water travels under flooring and wicks up drywall from the bottom, often well past the visible wet spot. We mark the wet boundaries so drying covers all of it.

Can laminate or hardwood flooring be saved?

Hardwood can sometimes be dried in place with floor-drying equipment if the water was clean and the work starts quickly. Laminate and engineered flooring with a fiberboard core usually swell and need replacing. We'll tell you which you have and what's realistic.

What's the difference between extraction and drying?

Extraction removes liquid water with pumps and extractors, usually on the first visit. Drying removes the moisture still inside materials, with dehumidifiers and air movers over several days. Both are needed, and thorough extraction makes the drying shorter.
