Machinery and equipment cleaning after a fire or flood in Metro Detroit

From a machine shop's lathes to a dealership's service bays and a restaurant's kitchen line, equipment exposed to soot, smoke or floodwater needs careful cleaning before it can be trusted again. RMO cleans it machine by machine and documents each one for your records and your insurer.

Cleaning machinery the right way after a loss

Machinery that sat through a fire or a flood can look worse than it is, or better. Soot on a painted housing may wipe off, while the same residue on machined ways, bearings and electrical enclosures quietly starts to corrode. Floodwater leaves silt in bases, pumps and lubrication points that can damage a machine the next time it runs. Getting it right takes a plan for each piece of equipment.

We begin with an inventory: each machine tagged, photographed and assessed for what it was exposed to and how far residue penetrated. Your technicians or the manufacturer's service team tell us what we may open and what they will handle themselves. Cleaning happens in place or in a separate cleaning area, using HEPA vacuuming, dry soot sponges, degreasers and controlled wet cleaning, followed by drying and corrosion protection on bare metal.

Lubrication, calibration and startup stay with the people who service the equipment. When cleaning is finished, each asset goes back to your technicians with a record of its exposure, the work done and anything we recommend they check. The same list gives your adjuster a clear basis for cleaning or replacing each machine.

  • Asset by asset

Each machine is tagged, photographed and tracked from assessment to handback.

  • Flash rust prevention

Bare and machined surfaces are dried and protected as soon as they are cleaned.

What machinery and equipment cleaning includes

  • Inventory and tagging

Every affected machine is tagged, photographed and logged with its location and exposure.

  • Scope agreed with your technicians

We confirm which components we clean and which stay with your technicians or the manufacturer's service team.

  • Soot and residue removal

HEPA vacuuming, dry soot sponges and suitable cleaners remove residue from housings, frames and accessible parts.

  • Degreasing and silt removal

Smoke-contaminated grease and flood silt are cleared from bases, guards, ways and pans.

  • Drying and corrosion protection

Cleaned bare metal is dried and treated right away to limit flash rust.

  • Separate cleaning area

Portable equipment can be moved to a contained cleaning area and returned to its place afterward.

  • Handback records

Each asset comes back with notes on what was done and what your technicians should check before startup.

  3. Mitigate and document

We stop the damage, extract and dry, and record photos and moisture readings your insurer can use.

  4. Restore and rebuild

Once everything is dry and clean, the same team handles the repairs, from drywall and flooring to finishes.

Why businesses choose RMO for equipment cleaning

  • Every machine accounted for

Tags and photo records follow each asset from assessment to handback, so nothing gets lost between departments, vendors and the adjuster.

  • Your technicians keep control

We clean what your service team approves and leave internal work, adjustment and startup to them.

  • Part of the larger restoration

Equipment cleaning runs alongside structural cleaning, drying and rebuild, so the building and its machinery come back together.

Questions people ask us

Don’t see yours? A person answers 248-845-0000 around the clock.

Do you clean equipment in place or move it?

Both. Large or fixed machinery is cleaned in place with the area contained, and portable equipment can be moved to a separate cleaning area when that is faster or safer. We decide together based on size, how the equipment is mounted and your schedule.

Who restarts the machines?

Your technicians or the manufacturer's service team. We return each machine cleaned and documented, with notes on anything they should inspect, and they handle lubrication, calibration and startup. That approach helps protect warranties and service agreements.

What kinds of equipment do you clean?

Production and shop machinery, dealership service-bay equipment, commercial kitchen equipment, printing and packaging lines, compressors and similar business assets. If it was exposed to soot, smoke, floodwater or sewage, describe it when you call and we'll tell you whether cleaning is realistic.

How does equipment cleaning work with insurance?

Your adjuster gets an asset list with photos, exposure notes and the cleaning done on each machine, plus an itemized scope. That lets them compare cleaning with replacement machine by machine. Coverage itself is decided by your carrier.
